Assassin's Creed: Valhalla settlement upgrades, buildings list and how to get supplies and raw materials explained

Publish date: 2022-12-27

Assassin's Creed Valhalla's settlement is something we haven't seen from Ubisoft's adventure series for some time - a place to call home.

Similar to Connor's Homestead and Ezio's Monteriggioni, this is a central location from which your viking adventure resolves around.

From planning the moves throughout England's four kingdoms, to using the spoils from your many conquests to add new buildings, there's always a reason to come back to your settlement.

This page explains the essentials of how the settlement in Assassin's Creed Valhalla works, an in-progress list of settlement buildings you can unlock, and how to get supplies and raw materials.

How to upgrade your settlement in Assassin's Creed Valhalla explained

To quote Ubisoft, the settlement is the "beating heart" of your adventure - a place where not only your plans for the conquest of England take shape, but also where you build alliances and forge friendships and certain romances.

You'll need to return often to the longhouse make new decisions as part of the story. Unlike more recent Assassin's Creed games, it's the central location for many peripheral activities too, such as customising your character, changing mounts to upgrading your weaponry with the blacksmith - essentially everything you need in one place.

Giving the wolf mount a spin.

However, not everything will be available right away. There are six stages of upgrades with the settlement, a process likely to take the duration of the main story to complete - depending on how much raiding you do on the side of course.

How to get supplies and raw materials in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Upgrading the settlement in Assassin's Creed Valhalla requires two resources:

If you are in the need of upgrading your settlement quickly, it's worth raiding two to three monasteries. Not only are they the primary source of raw materials - the rarer of the two - but nearby wealth points in each location will also contain supplies. (Check your map to see which buildings these are in exactly.)

An important thing to note is to check the power level of each raid before you travel to each monastery location. You can find this by hovering over the region it's attached to. Though you can technically raid any location from the off, the higher the level, the more damage you will take with each attack, making some incredibly difficult to complete.

We'd recommend sticking to level 90 and below to begin with, which should be manageable for the start of the game.

The new DLC is here - and we explain how to start The Siege of Paris, as well as new romance options and Treasure Hoard locations. If you're after end game activities in the full game, we can explain how to get Nodens' Arc, Excalibur, Thor gear and other Valhalla armour sets, Power Level and how to get XP fast, Order of the Ancients locations and all Assassin's Creed Valhalla story choices. If you're looking for things to collect and upgrade, we have lists on best skills and Book of Knowledge locations.
