Monster Hunter World Horizon Zero Dawn event - how to complete The Proving and unlock the Aloy armour set

Publish date: 2022-10-17

Monster Hunter World's Horizon Zero Dawn event allows you to unlock unique Aloy Armour set for a limited time.

A previous event saw you unlock a Watcher Palico, also themed around Guerrilla Games' PS4 exclusive.

Elsewhere, our Monster Hunter World tips can help you decide when to farm, what to forage and what to do between hunts, and our Monster Hunter World walkthrough and guide can help with main quest and story progress.

What you need to know about the Monster Hunter World Horizon Zero Dawn event

The special event has a few stipulations:

Though the good news is both 'The Lessons of the Wild' and 'The Proving' will return in future, so don't stress if you're not high enough level first time round.

How to beat The Proving and get Aloy's Armour Set

To get Aloy's Armour set, make sure you have the latest patch installed and have connected online. Next, head to Astera and investigate the Quest board. Now scroll down the bottom and select Events. Next, choose the 'The Proving' event.

The Proving will see you face off against a slightly more powerful than usual Anjanath. You'll have had to face an Anjanath as part of the story by now, so you'll know what to expect, but between it being High Rank variant and a little tougher for the event, we recommend you come packing with the best weapons and armour you can.

We also highly recommend you send an SOS flare. There should be no shortage of players wanting to grinding out materials for the Aloy armour set, and it'll make your life considerably easier (and the task at hand go much faster).

The encounter otherwise plays out much the same as any other Anjanath hunt. Once you are done, you'll receive the Nova Brave Trophy material as one of your quest rewards. You'll need four of these to build the entire Aloy Armour set, and another two to get Aloy's Bow.

So assuming you get all the Anjanath materials you need first time, that's six replays of the quest to get everything you need. It's a bit of a grind, but it's worth remembering doing this is useful for a few other things:

Is Aloy's Armour in Monster Hunter World any good?

Unlike the Palico Watcher set from a previous event, Aloy's Armour is a High Rank variant, meaning it's more viable for the High Rank campaign.

Though it probably won't carry you through to the end game, and you can't wear each piece individually (as it must be equipped as a set) it's a decent and easy enough to build set for the early to midway set of High Rank encounters.

Additionally, when the right time limited event quests roll around, it's possible to craft some Aloy Layered Armour out of it, keeping your armour stats as well as the Aloy appearance.

It also comes with a handful of useful perks, keeping Aloy and Horizon Zero Dawn's characteristics in mind:

SkillEffect
AdrenalineTemporarily reduces stamina depletion when health is at 40% or lower
Stamina Cap UpIncreases stamina cap.
Affinity SlidingSliding increass your affinity for a short time.
Marathon RunnerSlows down stamina depletion for actions which continuously drain stamina (such as dashing).
Weakness ExploitIncreases the affinity of attacks that exploit a monster weak spot.
ScenthoundIncreases your scoutflies' gauge fill rate when you find tracks and other traces left by monsters.
StealthMakes it easier for monsters to lose sight of you.
Slinger CapacityIncreases the loading capacity for slinger ammo obtained in the field.

Additionally, whether male or female, equipping the set will transform you into Aloy, which is a nice bonus. It's a nice collectors item either way, and as mentioned in the previous section, you'll get some other items along the way for your trouble too.

Iceborne has arrived! Here's how to start Monster Hunter World Iceborne and beat the first monster, Beotodus. Once you get settled into the world, learn about Layered Armour in Monster Hunter World and the various side-quests available - including Surveyor Set missions, Boaboa quests and finding Pearlspring Macaque locations. And, when you're ready to take it on, Shara Ishvalda. If you're crafting, then learning where to find rare materials such as Purecrystal and Monster Slogbone is useful. How to complete the Lessons of the Wild event and unlock the Watcher Lens

Note the following event has concluded, and will appear again in the game in the future.

To start the event, make sure you have the latest patch installed and have connected online.

Next, head to Astera and investigate the Quest board. Now scroll down the bottom and select Events. Next, choose the Lessons of the Wild event.

The quest itself is very straightforward. It's set in the arena, and you must slay 8 Barnos. These are small monster drakes that take just a few hits to take down.

When you get close they should swoop to your position, allowing you to get going with a melee weapon.

Otherwise, you have the benefit of a Tzitzi-Ya-Ku there with you. Its blinding attack can knock down any floating drakes, so use this to your advantage to get some easy kills in. You don't have to kill the Tzitzi-Ya-Ku, so feel free to otherwise ignore it.

There will be more Barnos than you need to finish the quest (if you run out, more should spawn elsewhere in the arena). Once you have slain the eighth, the quest will be over.

Upon finishing, you'll receive a Watcher Lens. This is one of the components required to craft the Watcher Palico equipment.

Head to the Smithy, then Forge Palico Equipment, and you'll have two options:

This means as well as the additional materials, you'll need to run this quest a total of three times in order to get enough Watcher Lens materials to build everything.

It'll be worth it, though - as well as being one of the more unique Palico armours in the game, it stacks up fairly well against armour you might have around this rank, with a combined 218 defence.
