Development on the incredibly popular fan-made game Pokémon Uranium has ceased.

In a note on Twitter, the creators of the game, nine years in the making, said they would no longer offer downloads, updates or support.

Pokémon Uranium was pulled offline after hitting a whopping 1.5m downloads. Nintendo lawyers began targeting Pokemon Uranium with takedown notices back in August and, pre-empting a messy legal challenge, its creators removed download links from their site.

Uranium is a PC game based upon the main handheld series' 2D installments. It has more than 100 unique Pokemon to collect, a huge region to explore and a couple of nifty new features.

The game lets you seamlessly battle and trade online. A new Pokémon type, Nuclear, is featured. You can even talk to your Pokémon .

Thanks in part to the current Pokémon Go craze, Uranium caught the attention of Pokefans across the internet and was widely shared.
