Destiny 2 Deathbringer quest steps: Where to find the core system vault, Bone Collector and High Conductor locations
Destiny 2's Deathbringer is an Exotic quest for those who have purchased Shadowkeep.
The quest to unlock Deathbringer is available as soon as you complete the Shadowkeep expansion's ending Beyond mission.
As soon as you do that, you'll receive the Memory of Sai Mota quest. Though not obvious at first, this is the first step to getting the Exotic we're after.

How to complete Memory of Sai Mota and find the Firewall Data Fragment location
First things first - complete the Destiny 2 Shadowkeep campaign. This ends in the Beyond mission, and once it's completed, you'll be given the Memory of Sai Mota quest.
To complete this, pick up the Lunar Spelunker weekly bounty from Eris's bounty list. The Lunar Spelunker bounty has you complete the K1 Communion, K1 Logistics and K1 Crew Quarters Lost Sectors. Once you have done it, hand in the bounty, which will then complete this stage of the Memory of Sai Mota quest.
This then unlocks the Firewall Data Fragment quest step. You need to take this to the system core vault location within the K1 Revelation Lost Sector.
Specifically, head through the Lost Sector until you are at the end chest. If you are looking at it from the ground below, look right and up, and in the wall you'll see a walkway with a circular opening.
Head up here and at the end is a glass door with a prompt, allowing you to use the Firewall Data Fragment. Head through, and use the console ahead, to then complete this quest step and update Memory of Sai Mota with 'Sai Mota's Broken Necklace'.
How to complete Sai Mota's Broken Necklace
Next, you have to kill Nightmare enemies in the Moon destination using Arc abilities to get Necklace Scraps.
The sources don't matter as long as it's on the Moon, but we recommend exploring Sorrow's Harbour, where at each of the plates, you may find a red hovering mass which will spawn a bigger Nightmare (an Ogre) and several small ones.
If you are a little underleveled, then something we did was wait until you had a Super, then charge in, using that on the smaller Nightmares, then finish by chipping away at the health of the Ogre then using a Grenade to finish it off.
Each one will drop a few Necklace Scraps, so three to four rounds of this is all you need.
Once complete, head to Eris's vendor location in the south of the Moon, where the portal will be open. Head through and talk to her to give the repaired necklace.
After this, open the chest to the side to receive your reward - a Legendary weapon and the next quest step Faculties of the Skull - part of the larger Symphony of Death quest.
Where to find the Circle of Bones and Bone Collector location
You will now start the Symphony of Death exotic quest line. The first step is 'Circle of Bones explored', which is an area deep underground in the Moon.
To get there, you need to head to the Hellmouth and venture underground. Once there, you'll have a quest marker to activate for the Faculties of the Skull mission, with has a 860 Power recommendation. Here's ZaFrostPet with the exact location:
Once done, you then have to visit Eris again, then complete Marrow's Elegy, also part of the larger Symphony of Death quest. This has you find:
- Complete public events near Hellmouth (to get Festering Bones)
- Complete K1 Revelation (to get Ritualistic Bones)
- Find the wandering Bone Collector (to get Bone Collector's Marrow)
The toughest part of this is the Bone Collector location. This will spawn somewhere in the Anchor of Light in a somewhat unpredictable fashion, and it appears to be mostly a case of hanging around until it appears.
Here's GamerForEternity showing this in action:
Where to find High Conductor Sulmakta
Once this is done, you need to take down High Conductor Sulmakta within the Scarlett Keep strike. This is not a special version of the strike, so just grab it from the Director screen on the Moon.
Play through to the penultimate section, where you are riding the elevator up the tower, and get off at the second stop, which is where the enemy will spawn.
Here is Esoterickk with the exact High Conductor Sulmakta location:
Season of the Haunted is here! Get up to speed with our levelling guide. For The Witch Queen, learn how to get Exotics including Dead Messenger and Parasite. Late last year, we saw the Bungie 30th Anniversary, which adds the Grasp of Avarice dungeon, Strange Coins and new Exotics, including the Gjallarhorn and Forerunner.
How to complete the Symphony of Death
Once you have run the Scarlett Keep strike, you then have the 'Of Darkest Harmony' to finish things off with. This comprises of three steps:
- Defeat regular enemies
- Defeat elites and mini-bosses
- Defeat bosses or other Guardians
Doing the above on the Moon will complete these steps quicker.
Once that's done, the final step is returning the Circle of Bones - which is where you completed the Faculties of the Skull mission earlier - to do a different mission named Choir of the Damned, which has a Power requirement of 920, and has you hunt down Ir Airam, Deathsinger.
