Dark Souls - Tomb of the Giants strategy and how to survive the pitch-black area
Tomb of the Giants comes after exploring The Catacombs and beating Pinwheel in Dark Souls.
If you're looking for more help, our Dark Souls walkthrough and guide can help with all other areas of the game, including the dreaded Taurus Demon, Capra Demon, Ornstein and Smough bosses.
Tomb of the Giants
First of all, the Tomb of the Giants is completely patch-black - so you will either want to equip a Skull Lantern , use the Cast Light sorcery or equip a Sunlight Maggot. From the entrance, head to the purple glow, then cross the bridge to the blue glow. From here, hug the right wall until you encounter a Giant Skeleton, deal with this and go towards the purple glow, then the green, then the other path down. Look right and two skeletons will attack.
Head down the path and hug the wall to the right. Do not cross this upcoming coffin, hug the wall between the coffin and the wall to drop down to a ledge with humanity. Then, drop down a level and you will be right next to a bonfire. Well done, you've made it this far.
You will be able to warp from this bonfire, so if you need anything, or need to repair your equipment, do so now. From here, you want to head up the ladder immediately in front of you. You will encounter Patches the Hyena, do not entertain him and go towards the right of him. Here, you will encounter a four legged skeleton, kill this and head towards the fog gate.
If you do listen to Patches, he will kick you down to an area which is incredibly difficult to get out of. At the bottom will be a Skull Lantern and some enemies, you will also find a ladder to take you back up behind an illusory wall, where you can also find a Large Divine Ember- Just watch out for those Skeletons!
Just past the archway, will be another four legged skeleton, and a Black Knight to the left. Then, head towards the archer, and on the right follow a path down, with another skeleton beast along the way to get to the second Bonfire. There is still a bit more to go, so prepare and head back up the path, and follow it until you find a path to the light down a ladder. Then, head towards the outdoor area.
On the path to the right will be a crystal lizard. Then, head down and hug the left of the path. Beware, there will be a centipede skeleton along the way. Push onwards, and you will be surrounded by two of these, one if front and other behind. Equip some high-poise armour and hug the left to ensure you do not fall.
If you're looking for more help, our Dark Souls walkthrough and guide can help with all other areas of the game, including the dreaded Taurus Demon, Capra Demon, Ornstein and Smough bosses. Meanwhile, we have explainers on how to access DLC Artorias of the Abyss, the best gift and best class in Dark Souls, Dark Souls' best weapons, Dark Souls Covenants, Dark Souls Estus Flasks locations, Dark Souls Titanite Slab locations and NPC quests including Lautrec of Carim.
Proceed towards the archer, but immediately to the left of it is another Skeleton that will try to kick you off the edge. Now, head to the area inside where you will find a number of Pinwheels.
Hang left and drop down to where a Pinwheel is, then head up the incline to get to the boss fog door. This is an incredibly tough one, so equip all of your best gear and head inside when you're ready to fight Gravelord Nito.
Once done, there are three other areas and bosses you must tackle before you can head to the game's final area:
- Crystal Caves (from Duke's Archives)
- The Abyss (from New Londo Ruins)
- Lost Izalith (from Demon Ruins)
