Animal Crossing Blue Marlin: How to catch a blue marlin and find the pier location in New Horizons

Publish date: 2022-09-14

Blue Marlins are one of the rarer fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

This rarity partly stems from how, like tuna, blue marlins only spawn at the end of the pier.

Within this page you'll find everything you need to know about catching blue marlins, including their times, to help you add them to the Museum.

Where is the pier and how do you catch Blue Marlin there?

The pier is the small wooden platform that will be located along one of the beaches of your island in New Horizons. It is not the jetty where your airport is located.

To make catching a blue marlin easier, you should stand at the end of your pier. This won't prevent other fish aside from these two from spawning, but it will prevent you from accidentally fishing outside of the spawn zone a blue marlin.

The real issue with catching this fish, however, is that you either need to be very lucky or, more likely, a lot of fish bait.

You need one manila clam to make one bag of fish bait, which, of course, you can only use once. So grab your shovel, start beachcombing and wonder why the game won't let you craft fish bait in batches.

Thankfully blue marlin both appear throughout the day, meaning there's a chance of you catching them day or night. This means that, even if you're not close to the fish's departure, you don't have to worry about fishing at a specific time.

You should expect to catch a lot of other fish and break a couple of fishing rods in your quest to add this fish to your collection. These fish can either be sold or released back into the sea.

Our advice is space out your blue marlin hunts to prevent the task from becoming tedious, especially when you need to make more fishing bait. The appearance of a blue marlin, like tuna, is random, so you will need to just keep throwing bait into the ocean until you get lucky.

Good luck catching a blue marlin!
