The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild glitch lets you see underwater

Publish date: 2022-10-17

Ever wondered what's underwater in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? One player has had a peek - and it's gorgeous.

A player used a glitch to have a look underwater in the Nintendo Switch masterpiece, and revealed a huge amount of beautiful detail normally concealed from the player.

The clip shows fish swimming about and plenty of colourful coral. Shadows are cast on the sea bed, too.

(Breath of the Wild players have used glitches to have a gander underwater before, but in areas that haven't shown this kind of detail.)

Given none of this can be seen by the player under normal circumstances, why have it in the game at all? Well, the obvious suggestion is Nintendo planned for Breath of the Wild to have a diving mechanic but cut it.

When you think about it, it's a little odd Breath of the Wild does not have a diving mechanic, given previous entries in the legendary series have had it (although I've tried to erase the painful memory of the Water Temple from my mind). In Breath of the Wild you automatically dive into water by dropping into it from any height, but you can't dive underwater.

Perhaps something for the Breath of the Wild sequel?
